How Predicted Ranks Work, and When to Trust Them

A predicted rank is an estimate built from a pool of real submissions. When candidates check their scores on the platform, each submission adds one data point with a score, a category, and other attributes. Your predicted rank is where your score falls inside that pool.

Why the pool matters

On day one after an answer key, the pool is small, so the estimate is noisy. As thousands of candidates submit, the distribution of scores becomes representative of the actual candidate population, and the predicted rank tightens around the truth. This is true of every rank predictor, including the big ones.

Category pools

Cutoffs differ by category, so a useful predictor ranks you inside your own category pool, not just the overall one. That is why the calculator asks for your category before it shows you a rank.

When to trust it

Use the predicted rank to decide your next steps: whether to start mains preparation now, and how intensively. Do not treat it as the result. The only official rank is the one the commission publishes with the result.
